GAINESVILLE, GA — Longtime Hall County resident and former public servant Steve Gailey has officially announced his candidacy for Hall County District 3 Commissioner, pledging to bring experienced leadership, fiscal responsibility, and transparent government back to county leadership.
Gailey previously served as Hall County District 3 Commissioner from 2002 to 2010, where he built a reputation as a careful steward of taxpayer dollars and a strong advocate for balanced growth throughout the county. During his tenure, Gailey played a key role in several major projects that continue to serve residents today, including the development of the Spout Springs Library and the establishment of community centers in East Hall, South Hall, and North Hall.
“I love Hall County and the people who call it home,” Gailey said. “Our community has grown tremendously over the years, and with that growth comes the responsibility to make smart decisions that protect our quality of life while planning responsibly for the future.”
A lifelong Hall County resident, Gailey attended Clermont Elementary School, North Hall High School, and Southern Technical Institute. His deep roots in the community have given him a firsthand understanding of the needs of local families, businesses, and neighborhoods.
In addition to his service as County Commissioner, Gailey previously served as Mayor of Clermont, Georgia and as a member of the Clermont City Council, giving him extensive experience working at both the municipal and county levels.
Outside of government, Gailey built a successful professional career working in Plant Engineering at Atlantic Steel Company before spending 38 years as an environmental consultant. He retired from the profession in January 2025.
During his time as Commissioner, Gailey emphasized responsible budgeting and accountability in government. He notes that he never voted for a tax increase during his tenure and helped guide decisions that saved Hall County taxpayers millions of dollars while expanding community infrastructure and public services.
Gailey also highlighted his continued commitment to public safety, responsible growth, and protecting taxpayers as key priorities in his campaign.
“Hall County has always been a special place to live and raise a family,” Gailey said. “My goal is to ensure we continue to grow in a way that protects our communities, supports our public safety professionals, and respects the hardworking taxpayers who make this county strong.”
Gailey and his late wife were married for 39 years until her passing in 2022. He is the proud father of two children, William and Audrey, and grandfather to four grandsons: Clay, Easton, Eamon, and Beckham.
The campaign will begin meeting with voters across District 3 in the coming weeks to discuss the issues most important to residents and share a vision for Hall County’s future. Especially the issues that are most important for District 3.
